Grades 6-8 Health Course Description

Middle school health is a comprehensive course beginning in sixth grade and culminating in eighth grade. Students work in a sequential order to meet the National Health Standard Indicators established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. While learning content, students engage in project based learning where they explore future careers in the health field and work to solve authentic, real-world problems by using the the 4-C’s (collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity) to produce solutions. By the conclusion of their middle school career, students will have:

  • comprehended concepts related to health promotion and disease prevention to enhance health;
  • analyzed the influence of family, peers, culture, media, technology, and other factors on health behaviors;
  • demonstrated the ability to access valid information and products and services to enhance health;
  • demonstrated the ability to use interpersonal communication skills to enhance health and avoid or reduce health risks;
  • demonstrated the ability to use decision-making skills to enhance health;
  • demonstrated the ability to use goal-setting skills to enhance health;
  • demonstrated the ability to practice health-enhancing behaviors and avoid or reduce health risks.; and
  • demonstrated the ability to advocate for personal, family, and community health.
