Grade 6 Art Course Description

Sixth grade Art focusing primarily on two-dimensional art. There will be a concentration on basic drawing and painting techniques, methods and materials. Special attention will be given to understanding color theory and using the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design to create successful compositions. Studio instruction will be supported by the study of art history and art criticism.

  • Use art production skills and techniques to problem solve, communicate ideas, and feelings.
  • Use the elements and principles of art effectively.
  • Art Elements: Line, Shape, Form, Space, Value, Color, Texture
  • Art Principles: Rhythm and Movement, Balance, Proportion, Variety and Emphasis, Harmony and Unity.
  • Use color theory and concepts effectively.
  • Demonstrate quality work habits in the preparation, and presentation, of art works.
  • Demonstrate the art criticism and aesthetic operations to understand and appreciate art works.

Grade 7 Art Course Description

Seventh grade Art focuses primarily on two-dimensional art. There will be a concentration on continuing the development of drawing and painting techniques, methods and materials. Special attention will be given to applying concepts of color theory and using the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design to create complex compositions. Studio instruction will be supported by the study of art history and art criticism.

Visual Arts Education is a spatial art form that satisfies the human need to respond to life experiences through images, structures and tactile works.

Grade 8 Art Course Description

Eighth grade Art focuses primarily on two-dimensional art. There will be a continued development of drawing skills, exploration of collage processes and acrylic painting techniques. The concepts of color theory and the application of the Elements and Principles of Art will be explored to create complex compositions and to solve visual problems. Students will utilize personal experience to develop meaningful imagery. Studio instruction will be supported by the study of art history and art criticism.
