Ancient Civilizations 7

Grade 7 Social Studies Course Description

In Ancient Civilizations students will explore civilizations that shaped the modern world. This includes ancient Greece, India, China, and Rome, as well as Medieval Europe and Asia, arriving at the Age of Exploration by year's end. Rather than focusing on who did what and when, the students will examine why events occurred, and look at how significant people, events, and ideas have influenced the development of cultures over time.

Students will be encouraged to think critically about events and ideas that shaped human history. An emphasis is placed upon written and verbal expression of ideas and concepts in the class. Students will work both collaboratively and individually to express their understanding of content. By the end of the course students should have a firm understanding of how ancient civilizations shaped the modern world in which we live.
