American Foundations 8

Grade 8 Social Studies Course Description

American Foundations is the study of how America became a country. Students begin the course learning how scientists believe humans first came to the Americas, followed by what life was/is like for Native Americans. We then focus on European exploration and the establishment of French and Spanish colonies in the New World. Eventually, we focus on England and what life was like in the 13 Colonies. We study the rationale for rebellion against Great Britain and how we won our War for Independence. Lastly, we lay a foundation of the government our founders established by studying both the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
