Drone Technology & Operation (DTO)
Aviation & Flight Science (AFS)
Drone Technology & Operation (DTO) offers high school students an immersive experience in the dynamic world of aerodynamics, unmanned aircraft architecture, and flight dynamics. This semester course provides a comprehensive overview of UAS technology, allowing students to apply STEM knowledge through hands-on activities that range from aeronautical chart reading and decoding complex weather reports to piloting film drones and professionally editing aerial footage. Because safety and professionalism are paramount in the national airspace, enrollment is restricted to students who demonstrate the maturity and discipline required for responsible piloting. The curriculum is specifically designed to prepare eligible students (ages 16 and up) to sit for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Part 107 Remote Pilot Knowledge Test, the required credential for becoming a licensed commercial drone pilot.
