Students at Parkdale explore various science topics at each grade level throughout the year.
Kindergarten - explore fall topics, like spiders, bats, apples and pumpkins. They investigate weather and seasons. Students are introduced to the topic of forces and build objects that can be put into motion. They also explore the life cycle of chickens and other farm animals.
1st grade - observe familiar plants and animals. They explore outer space and conduct investigations to test different types of matter.
2nd grade - explore the properties of matter and investigate how heating and cooling affect the properties of materials. Student explore how water shapes the earth and observe and discuss the causes of erosion. They also continue to explore plants life cycle and how seeds are dispersed. Lastly, students explore animal classification and traits of animal groups.
3rd grade - discover how plants and fruit reproduce through pollination and fruiting. Students also observe and predict weather by learning about clouds and wind patterns, through the unit Stormy Skies. Students build on their knowledge of pushes and pulls in the unit Forces and Motions. They also explore the effects of friction on motion of objects. Students explore how animals and their environment change over time by analyzing traits of animals and how they are inherited.
4th grade - observe and investigate animal structures (live crayfish). Students will learn about the birth of rocks, in relation to volcanos. They explore the human body through the eye. Students will also explore kinetic and potential energy through various experiments.

Students at EAMS have Science every day for 40 minutes. There is a shared 5/6 lab, a 7th grade lab, and a grade 8 lab. Students complete a NYS Science Assessment in Grade 5 (beginning 2024) and Grade 8.
The curriculum is based on the New York State Science Standards.
Grade 5 topics include: Plants and Photosynthesis, Ecosystems, Earth's Systems, Engineering, Space and Properties of Matter. Students are exposed to lab experiences.
Grade 6 topics include: Introduction to Science, Animal Behavior and Adaptations, Waves and Sound, Cells, Weather, Human Impact on the Environment. Students are exposed to science labs and lab procedures.
Grade 7 topics include: Lab Equipment, Formal Labs, Intro to Matter, Interactions of Matter, Cell Processes and Classification, Energy, Forces, and Motion.
Grade 8 topics include: Students cover the following topics: Plate Tectonics, Meteorology, Rocks and Minerals, and Astronomy.

Students at EAHS have Science every day for 41 minutes with two 41 minute lab periods that meet 2x every 6 days.
Students can take the 4 NYS Regents classes (Earth Science, Living Environment, Chemistry and Physics) and choose from AP Physics, AP Chemistry, AP Bio, Environmental Science, or Anatomy and Physiology and Oceanography and Natural Disasters as electives through the 4 years of high school.
