K-12 Music
Music Overview
Parkdale
General music meets two times in a six day cycle.
Topics covered include elements of music, song form, connecting music to different subjects.
Each grade performs a choral concert once a year.
Third grade general music students play recorder.
Fourth grade band and instrumental lessons are available before school, with each ensemble performing 1-2 times a year.
Middle School
General music is offered to grades 5 and 6, every other day for one semester.
Musical elements are reviewed and advanced, as piano performance (reading sheet music) is emphasized both years.
Music technology is used for long term song instruction, composition, and song form.
Chorus, band and orchestra meet every other day for 40 weeks, with two performances a year.
Each discipline is divided into a 5-6 and 7-8 ensemble. Instrumental lessons are offered during the school day.
High School
Band, orchestra, chorus, and jazz band meet daily for 40 weeks.
Each ensemble performs 2-3 times a year.
More advanced literature is covered by each ensemble.
Instrumental lessons meet during the school day.
Music theory and beginning guitar meet every other day during the school year.
