Seal of Biliteracy- Next Test Administration Saturday 4/6 Can you speak, read, and write in more than one language? The Seal of Biliteracy is a State and Nationally-recognized designation that you are literate in English and one or more languages-- and you can earn it while you're still in high school! The next administration of the test to earn the Seal of Biliteracy will be held on Saturday, April 6th at DHS. Testing fee is $50, and the deadline to register is Wednesday, March 13th. See Mrs. Kilkenny in room S6 to pay and register for the test. 

Work Based Learning Construction Applications Applications for students interested in the Construction, Manufacturing or Automotive work baseed learning programs are due on Friday March 1st.

Local Scholarships The Sue Kruetz Scholarship, the Eunice Richmond Scholarship, and the Dunlap Athletic Boosters Scholarship are all due in March. See the Scholarship page on the counseling department's website for more info

Job Opportunity Commercial Mechanical Inc in Dunlap has an employment opportunity for a part time office support person, hours are very flexible. CMI will train you, but are looking for someone with general knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Contact Lloye Pond at CMI if interested.

Global Fest 2024 Global Fest is taking place this Saturday, March 2 at Expo Gardens from 2-7 pm. They are looking for volunteers and volunteers get in free. Don't miss your chance to sign up online to volunteer and experience the ethnic food, artistic performances, and educational activities.

College visits Thursday, February 29th, a representative from Eureka College will be meeting with interested students in the Library during homeroom. Sign up if interested outside of C5.

Fire and EMS Careers If you are interested in learning about fire and EMS careers in the civilian or military sector, the Dunlap Fire/EMS Club is going to observe the Hazardous Material search & rescue as well as medical training with the Air National Guard on Saturday, March 2nd from 8am to 12pm. Anyone interested in going, please contact Mr. Petlach in F4 or via email by the end of school this Tuesday.

Boys and Girls State If you are completing your junior year at DHS, you are eligible for either Boys State or Girls State. This is a week-long program dedicated to providing training in government(city, county and state). Participating students will experience a two party system and will run for office, campaign, vote and write legislation. The cost is $300 which includes meals and housing. There are scholarships available for those students who are interested and can't pay. If anyone plans to attend a Military Academy this experience is highly recommended. See Mrs. Klokkenga in the counseling office for more information or check out the Summer Opportunities on the DHS Counseling website.

24-25 Football Informational Any student interested in playing football next school year needs to see Coach Caz during homeroom on Thursday for the summer calendar

BigFuture Scholarship (College Board) Starting sophomore year Illinois students can complete college and career planning steps on BigFuture and automatically enter monthly scholarship drawings. Two $40,000 scholarships and multiple $500 scholarships are awarded every month. There's no required essay, minimum GPA or test score. The requirements to qualify are simple: Complete actions that can help you get ready for life after high school. If your family's income is less than $60,000 per year, you'll earn double entries for every drawing. BIGFUTURE.org 

Senior Scholarship Senior Athletes - If you participate in sports at DHS and your parents are part of the DHS Booster's Club, check out the Tessa Sutton Memorial Scholarship. Don't miss out! 

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Scholarship Seniors - If you have a 2.7 or higher GPA, have leadership in activities, plan to attend college and are African Am., Asian Am., Latino (a) Am., Native Am., and Pacific Islander, you may want to apply for the Delta Sigma Theta Scholarship. March 15 is the deadline. Don't miss out. 

WIU Public Safety Open House Western Illinois University is hosting a Public Safety Open House on Wednesday, March 6 from 9 am-2 pm with a variety of demonstrations ranging from polygraph, accident reconstruction, paramedic and EMT, search and rescue and thermal imaging. 

Ready to Work Expo at ICC ICC is hosting a Ready to Work Expo on Thursday, Feb. 29 from 4-7 AND on Friday, March 1 from 10 am- noon. Discover 25+ programs at ICC that will get you Ready to Work in various careers - many in high-demand, higher-wage fields. Please register in advance at icc.edu/visit. Signs are posted in the commons for more information.

Juniors - Horatio Alger Scholarship High achieving juniors with financial need should be applying for the Horatio Alger Association Scholarship. March 15 is the deadline.

Kathryn G. Hansen Business Scholarship Seniors - If you are going into a business related field and staying in Illinois for college, check out the Kathryn G. Hansen Business Scholarship. March 11 is the deadline.

Military Academy Night, March 18 Congressmen Darin LaHood and Eric Sorensen's Offices are hosting a Service Academy Day at the Peoria Air National Guard Monday, March 18 at 6:00 pm. Doors open at 5:30 and RSVP is REQUIRED no later than March 15. See the signs posted for the QR code. It's never too early to start looking so freshmen, sophomores, and juniors are definitely encouraged to attend.

Peoria County Farm Bureau Scholarship Seniors going into an Agriculture related field should be applying for the Peoria County Farm Bureau Scholarship. The deadline is March 29. Don't miss out.

24-25 FAFSA Update: The new FAFSA has launched and is now available for current seniors and their families to complete. Completing the FAFSA is a graduation requirement for all students in Illinois, and can be found here: https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa
