Community Service

With winter coming up Meals on Wheels tends to pick up with deliveries.  Meals on Wheels does a lot more than just provide nutrition, it also serves as a personal check in, which the recipients look forward to each day knowing someone is looking out for them.  Most of the delivery drivers are older, the tricky thing in the winter is from the car to the front door.  A Lot of times sidewalks, driveways, etc are not dry or shoveled and it puts the drivers at risk for falls.

Students able/willing to help deliver meals by:  1. meal delivery driver 2. meal delivery runner - where an older adult would do the driving and a student or student(s) would ride along and walk the meal from the car to the recipient's door.  Students could pair up together if they would like, it is up to you on how you would like that done.

Students who complete 80 hours of Community Service throughout the school year are eligible to receive .5 credit towards graduation. Students cannot receive more than .5 credit per school year for volunteering. The most credit a student can receive for volunteering over the course of 4 years is 2 credits (.5 credits each year).  All students must have the activity pre-approved by application and submit a description for credit by submitting a Community Service form. Students can pick up the Community Service form from the counseling office, or access the PDF at the bottom of this page, to record volunteering sites. All students completing Community Service must submit this form, a record of their hours signed by a supervisor, and a one-page reflective summary about their experience to their counselor in order to receive credit.
