We are creating a teacher appreciation gift, to one of our teachers, that is sustainable and will show your appreciation for this teacher. Deadline is April 8th, 2024. It will be made out of mostly wood
Brief /introduction: We have been given the activity to make a custom box out of wood/lumber. As a class we will choose
Pencil holder
To hold utensils just in case because I know a lot of teachers lose a lot of pencils due to they don't have a real spot to put em
holder for anything
In this they can put anything they need whether it's markers or anything that needs storage
Wood ornament
I know at home a small tree and I think this would be cool
book end
I know my english teacher doesnt really have place for the books we read so I think this is good idea to hold them
I chose the bookend. I hose this because I think it's a unique thing that would be helpful for a number of people. I'm thinking of gifting this to my mother or English teacher. I will most likely make it a simple book end with a carving of the name of the person I'm gifting it to. I may add some small details that make it stand out aside from the 2 pieces of wood on each side, I may add additional pieces of wood for support and decoration
Color: Dark brown or Original wood color
Challenges: Some challenges I faced doing my project were, first figuring out what I was make because I didn't know how to do complex things. Next, it was thinking about the dimensions of my pencil box, so i used a ruler and my hand to think about the right size of it, then I drew the lines in inches on the pieces of wood I was using, to see how it would look in size and for seeing where I was gonna cut. Lastly, I used a new machine for cutting the wood out which was confusing at first until I learned how to use it.
Used to cut smaller pieces of wood
Don't use a piece of wood that is to big for the bandsaw, don't put your hands to close to the band saw, be sure to check that the saw is aligned on the wheel.
Used to nail two pieces of wood together
Always shoot nail guns away from your body and away from co-workers. Always disconnect the compressed air when: – Leaving a nailer unattended; – Travelling up and down a ladder or stairs; – Passing the nail gun to a co-worker; – Clearing jammed nails; – Performing any other maintenance on the nail gun.
Made for bigger wood and some safety rules are Never stand directly behind blade. While cutting, keep fingers and hands from passing through the plane in which the saw blade is. When moving hands, pick them up and bring them into you first. Never slide or swing arms around saw.
making quick and accurate miter cuts and some safety rules are Inspect the Blade Guard. ... Wait for Blade to Stop Spinning. ...Keep Hands Away From the Blade. ...Wear a Dust Mask. ...
The planer saw is used to make pieces of wood thinner. Safety rules are to use safety glasses, hearing protection, Dont raise or lower table when wood is still in it.
Used to cut small indent in wood for biscuits. Some safety rules are Use a vice or clamp to securely hold the work piece and support any overhanging portion. Do not hold your work piece by hand, if at all possible
the orbital sander creates ultra-smooth surfaces on materials such as wood, plastic, and metal some safety rules are
Wear a dust respirator for dusty operations.
Make sure the sander is switched "OFF" before connecting the power supply.
Wear safety glasses or goggles
Don't put on your skin
don't tilt the oribital sander
don't press down in on lense
The wood putty is used to fill imperfections, such as nail holes, in wood prior to finishing. To make it , you gather some wood dust in a cup then, you put some wood glue into the cup and mix until its thick enough to spread around.
Don't let it get on your eyes
Don't let it be on skin for to long
use gloves
use a little at a time
Don't eat the glue
make sure your spreading the glue evenly
Wood stain is a type of paint used to colour wood some do's and dont's are
don't dip the whole towel in the stain, don't play around, don't wipe it on people
use gloves and aprin, carfully spread on wood, leave overnight to dry
attach the lid with nails and a hinge to connect the box and the lid together to make close and open.
We are creating phone holders using a bandsaw and a nail gun only using wood. This would be useful for if you need to prop your phone up for a video or just to put it somewhere you don't have to look to far down to use.
These photos are inspiration for what the phone stand would look like when we would make it and some different styles I would consider when making the phone stand.
