Harp Learning Journal Entry - 1/8/25

Passing Before Thoughts:

I think the piece will be in a major key and change to a minor key sometime during the piece.

I think the piece will be moderate tempo and have lots of arpeggios.

Passing After Thoughts:

At first, the piece reminded me of a Japanese folk song.

I really like the harmonics and ritardando towards the end.

The arpeggios really add body and character to the piece.

Challenges:

Keeping tempo, using dynamics, and slowing the ending.

Learning Journal: Weaving Bonds 1/6/24

My work combines weaving with bonding in many ways. One way is through showcasing how ionic bonds work together. Ionic bonds link oppositely charged ions together to fill the valence electrons of an element. To represent the opposite charged ions, we used opposing colors on the color wheel and wove them together. For example, I used purple ad orange and my partner used green and red. Below is a picture!

ChemVAS Periodic Table Element Art Learning Journal -10/28/24

I combined STEAM subjects in this project by using science and art through the periodic table and drawing the symbol that represented my element. I learned a lot about the characteristics of Rhodium, my element, and how it is used in the world. I was creative by drawing two symbols of my element in one, jewelry and the founder. My artwork is a self portrait of Williams Wollaston hold jewelry surrounded by the element name, symbol, and number. The border is full of color shapes with patterns and variety.

I mainly pattern and variety on the border and with the amount of colors I used. I think the colors on my border made my picture unique and pop.

10/21- Mandala Electron Learning Journals

Mandalas show up in different cultures because they represent concepts and practices between those cultures. They also have been spread to other countries which eventually goes to the countries' cultures. We adopted the mandala by having symbols that represent us. Our group used hearts, footballs, strawberries, Christmas trees, and basketballs. These all represent us in some way. The electron configuration mandala shows principles of design through proportion, variety, and repetition. I feel like we were good on time, but the execution of the Mandala's shapes and colors/designs could’ve been much better.

I think the piece will be in a minor key, very slow and melancholy, and have lots of eight notes.

First Listen:

I like the beginning
I really like the key the piece is in
I like the breakdown with the tapping
It reminds me of jazz and a dolphin leaping into the air

Second Listen

I think it might be challenging to count the 8 at the measure and not wait to start the next measure
I also need to make sure I do my petals correctly.

How might cultural and historical contexts have shaped scientific discoveries in making the periodic table?

I think that if certain people didn't discover certain things, it would change the development of the periodic table. For example, if Antoine Lavoisier didn't define what a chemical element was, who would've? Another example is Mendeleev organizing the elements into groups. If this didn't happen, the periodic table wouldn't have been organized and not unfunctional. If the race or gender of the people who discovered these things were different, for example, a black male or woman, I think the discoveries would not have been taken as seriously or the observations would've been stolen.

Ultrasonic Sensor-9/19/24

Ultrasonic sensors work by sensing an object in front of them, within a certain range. An ultrasound is a high-pitched sound that is in-audible to the human ear. The audible hearing range can hear sounds that vibrate from 200 times and second to 20,000 times a second. The sensor has non-contact range detection within 13ft and a measuring angle of 15 degrees. It also has a pinout, with the trig and echo pins. The trig pin is used to make ultrasonic pulses and the echo pin is used to measure the distance the sensor is from hardware or an object. This sensor works by having the trigger pin set to high and then it sends out an ultrasonic burst with 8 pulses. If the signal is received by the echo pin, the echo pin goes low, showing that it has sensed something in it's range. You can use the time-distance-speed equation to calculate the distance of the sensor from an object. The speed of sound is used to calculate how fast speed travels, which is 340 m/s. The speed of time is the relationship between motion and space.

Calculation: 30µs (Time)

(0.034cm/µs x 30µs)/2= 0.51mm

Mandala Research- 9/23/24

The mandala is used to aid in meditation and allow people to focus more when meditating. Mandalas are spiritual and artistic practiced that have been used for centuries throughout religions like hinduism and buddhism. You can see many principles of design in mandalas such as patterns, proportion, repetition, and variety. You could use a mandala to show an atom by breaking down the parts and showing it as a diagram in a mandala.

Physics of Robot

Physics plays a major role in the execution of our robot. Friction is a resistance that goes in the opposite direction of the motion and is used on our robots through the wheels. Static friction exists between the object and the surface the object is placed on, when not in motion. Kinetic friction takes over once the object is in motion. This happens in our robot when our robot is placed on the ground and when in motion. Mass also affects the movement of our robot, because the weight/size of an object can affect the amount of friction it has. The bigger an object, the more friction it will have. The coefficient of friction is the amount of friction between two surfaces and can be measured. These are the ways that physics is connected to our robot.

This piece reminded me of when you're sitting in your bed, watching a show, on a rainy day, drinking hot chocolate and eating cookies.

I think this piece will also be in a minor and sound very upbeat and fierce.

Following First Listen:

This piece sounds very hectic and kind of French and like we are walking down a street in Paris late at night, eating bread.

What is Art? 7/29/24

I think art is a way for people to express feelings or ideas through objects. I think anything can be turned into art if it's portrayed in the correct way. I also think art is a form of connection between objects and people. Art can be shown digitally, through paintings and drawings, or through 3D items. I like art because you are allowed to have your own opinions about art without being judged because everyone has a different reaction to different art pieces. Other subjects like math and history can be intertwined into one's art. Art can express a certain point in history and it can use shapes and lines.
