This year, I faced the unique challenge of balancing both the intermediate and advanced harp classes due to scheduling conflicts. It was a wonderful opportunity to push myself by learning additional repertoire while still keeping pace with the advanced class. This experience truly helped me grow as a musician and deepen my commitment to the harp.

Arrangement Project

The Little Fountain is a well-known solo for beginner and intermediate harpists. With flowing arpeggios and a calm melody, it paints a picture of a gentle fountain. Samuel O. Pratt was an American harpist and teacher who wrote many pieces to help students build technique and musical expression. This piece remains popular for both learning and performance.

Samuel O. Pratt was a well-known harpist, composer, and educator. He toured as a harpist and flutist, and wrote music for all skill levels, including The Little Fountain and a Concerto in B Minor. He helped develop the Lyon & Healy Troubadour harp and co-founded the American Harp Society. His works are still used in programs like the Royal Conservatory of Music.

As a performer, I appreciate the opportunity this piece offers to shape the interpretation through subtle changes in tempo and dynamics. I am especially drawn to the B section for its lyrical quality and the sense of calm it conveys.
