Rhetorical Essay 1: Describe the first essay prompt.
For our first rhetorical analysis essay, we analyzed a passage of Arthur Miller's article, "Why I Wrote The Crucible." My thesis was Miller claims he wrote The Crucible to show how fear and paranoia can lead to false accusations, using the Salem witch trials to symbolize this through the use of pathos to emphasize and relate to the characters, imagery to create a specific setting and creates an intrigued tone to express his interest in the witchcraft trials.
Synthesis Essay 1:
For our first synthesis essay, we argued whether or not Arthur Miller's portrayal of Tituba in The Crucible was historically accurate. My thesis was, While Miller inaccurately portrayed Tituba because of her unknown ethnic background and origin and the use of stereotypical depictions of slaves to decide her diction, he accurately portrayed her role in the town and history. I used The Trial of Tatabe, The Examination of Tituba , The Crucible, and A Note on Historical Accuracy as sources.
