The goal of our Food for Thought project is to look at different cultures that use pottery, along with the Columbian exchange to create some pottery that represents both sides. There were many classes participating in this, and the classes came together with different facets of all of the different cultures including food, history, and art. I decided to make a bowl and a fork that represented Caribbean culture, and I used techniques such as pinch, and slab to create the main figures of the clay, then add the designs. If I had more time, I would’ve wanted to try to fix some issues that didn’t work for me, like having thinner tines on the fork Altogether, this is related to the Columbian exchange because there were many different foods and cultures shared during that period of time, and the art pieces that we made represented a more Native American culture.
In Art, we created the main designs, prototypes, and final structures of our place settings. We used techniques such as pinch, slab, and coil to create our utensils and plating, and all of our classes came together to create our final project.
In World History, we researched the Columbian exchange, which was the exchange of foods from Europe to the Americas. We participated in a cook off only using materials from Europe or the Americas, which helped us learn more abut culture in different parts of the world.
In this class, we researched much culture and foods that represented these place settings, which allowed us to gain more ideas for our place settings.
