Dance

Dance has been apart of my life since I have been 5 years old. Before I started dancing my parents tried to put me in my different extracurriculars (like soccer, gymnastics, and cheer), but dance is the one that really stuck. I began my dance journey at DanceMakers of Atlanta, where my love really started. While dancing with the company, I also began dancing with my schools dance program.

At school, I began dancing in the 3rd grade. With the school I continued to experience different genres which included ballet, lyrical, jazz, and contemporary. I was able to enjoy dance with my classmates and friends. During this time, my dance teacher at school opened up her own dance studio in which she invited me and some of my peers to come. I danced with this studio all the way until Covid-19 started to spread.

I have continued dance through Covid and middle school and now throughout high school. I have been able to perform and win at National Beta Convention two times in which we place 3rd both times and I was also able to perform with my classmates at the National Black Arts Festival (NBAF).

Dance has been a beneficial way of helping me express my feelings when I can't do it through talking. I have been able to use dance as my escape from difficult situations.
