To volunteer means to freely give your time and effort to help others without expecting payment. Volunteering can include things like helping at community events, tutoring younger students, assisting at food drives, or supporting local organizations. It is a way to give back to the community and make a positive impact on people’s lives.
Drew would require 100 volunteer hours during their high school career to encourage students to become more involved in their community and develop important life skills. Volunteering helps students build responsibility, empathy, and leadership while also exposing them to different experiences and people. It also prepares students for the future by showing colleges and employers that they are committed to service and willing to contribute beyond themselves.
I do community service mainly with the organization I'm in, called Jack and Jill of America, Inc. In addition, I also do community service for different programs around Drew and my community. Over the past three years, I have accumulated 153 hours overall. I have surpassed my goal of 100 hours of community service before my senior year I think community service is a requirement to graduate because it teaches us to respect our community, and it also teaches us the valuable lesson of community and togetherness.

Jack and Jill of America, Inc.
I have been a part of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. since I was in the 5th grade. While being in Jack and Jill, I have contributed to many different service projects through the years.
For example, the Atlanta Chapter of Jack and Jill of America partnered with Habitat for Humanity to landscape the yards of elderly residents to honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
In addition, with the help of moms from my chapter, I organized the collection of 375 coats and 120 pairs of shoes to donate to Inspire Outreach. I collaborated with multiple schools, including my school, Charles R. Drew Charter School.
Throughout my time at Drew, I have participated in many community service events.
For example, I was one of the counselors who helped the rising freshmen get a view of what high school would be like. We did different activities that included team building and a boot camp of the necessary knowledge to prepare for high school. I was the counselor for that week and each day.
I have also participated in many different activities, whether it is working the concession stands at sporting events or working backstage of dance or theater performances.

Elizabeth Baptist Church
I served as one of the counselors at my church’s Vacation Bible School at Elizabeth Baptist Church. During this time, I was responsible for a group of five-year-old students and helped guide them throughout their daily activities. Each day, I transported my group to different stations, including art, music, and prayer, ensuring that they stayed together, remained engaged, and transitioned safely between activities.
I participated in Vacation Bible School from June 2–5, 2025, volunteering six hours each day. Over the course of the week, I contributed a significant amount of time to supporting the program and helping ensure it ran smoothly. This experience allowed me to give back to my church community while building responsibility, teamwork, and mentoring skills.
