For this Food For Thought project, we combined different subjects to create an inclusive overall PBL project. The subjects that were incorporated in this project were World Literature, Visual Arts, and AP World History. We had to incorporate different aspects of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics).
For this portion of the project, we had to look up a recipe that represented us and our community and put a spin on it. My group created a Banana Pudding. After we made our dish, we then presented it to the class and had a "potluck". I worked on this project with Justin Clay, Brooklynn Caruth, Destiny Downie, and Sydney Gaines.
The goal of this project was to create a table setting that was inspired by the Columbian exchange. The different classes assignments were related because they all had to do with how food is influential in cultures, in cultural trading and also identity. In art class, we created pottery that represented/symbolized countries that were involved in the Columbian Exchange. I decide what to make based off the different types of pottery that we could make in class and which one i use most at home. Some of the techniques that I used were coil, slab, score and slip. Using these techniques it helped me created my pottery before a glazed in and put it in the kiln. This is related to the Columbian Exchange because during the exchange different goods and items when transferred from one place to another with caused a syncretism of different cultures and food. One thing that worked is the outcome of my pottery, even though there was a few issues in the beginning. If I had more time I would have added more detail into my pottery.
For this part of the project, we had to create a dish with the ingredients that we choose from our hemisphere. This showed what was happening prior to the Columbian Exchange. I worked on this project with Suri Cook, Michelle Ayling, Sydney Gaines, and Kenadie Smith.
