Ambassador Project
For this project, I created a slideshow about my experience in an American high school, and presented it to my German classmates. Going through topics like what a normal day looks like, what classes we take, how grades work, how extracurriculars work, school spirit, school dances, school fights, and a blurb about college applications, I tried to represent the true experience of an American teenager without idolizing it. In movies, American high school is overdone and dramatized, I wanted to break that stereotype. I wanted people to look at American teenagers and not immediately assume we are dumb and are going nowhere. Stereotypes don't have to be true, and I showed them that.
After the completion of my presentation, I wrote a report about it to submit to my exchange organization. In the report, I gave thorough descriptions of what I did and how it benefited my community.
The two presentations below were not special occasions. I did these after school or during someone's class time, because my teachers asked me to. I was so proud to be able to offer insight into American culture. But I was also thrilled to have the chance to inform people about exchange years, and how they too can do one. My exchange year changed my life, and I wanted the opportunity to give someone else that.
