Correlation Study and Experimental Design Project
For the project listed below, I worked in my statistics class to research a real-world relationship between two variables by implementing a study and designing a follow-up experiment. My overarching question was, does having more plants in your living space allow you to feel energized faster in the morning? Being absolutely exhausted and crushed before the day has even started is a problem nearly every teenager faces, and most people overall. I wanted to research to see if there was an easy, doable way people could wake up and feel like their best selves. I. I began by making an observational study, in this study, I interviewed people and asked them one, how many plants they had in their living space, and two, how many minutes it took them to feel awake/energized in the morning. Using this data, I created a graph, which showed me that there is a weak correlation. In order to prove causation, I would need to select my experimental units randomly and randomly assign them to a part of the experiment with either more or fewer pants in a living space.
After completing my study, I imported all my information into this slideshow, which I later presented to the class. I hope in the future one day to be able to continue this study and form a real experiment. I think knowledge like this could really change people's lives. This project showed me how important random ideas can be. Being able to dictate whether or not greenery wakes you up can make a huge impact on people's lives, including mine.
