My topic for my portfolio is internal complications, the struggles people deal with that arn’t diagnosed mental illnesses, more specific problems of a mental state. I choose this topic because it shows more in depth problems people face, I can relate to it and it is important for people to know. I hope my viewers gain a sense of being understood, not alone. So far in my portfolio I have used acrylic paint, graphite, and digital art. I hope to experiment with charcoal and watercolors. In my art works I have used movement, to show flowing water in my 3rd piece, unity so pieces come together, and emphases like adding the color red to make the eyes go to a certain spot on a piece, which I used in pieces 2 and 3.
My first piece depicts a boney hand reaching out to grab onto thorny vines as a rope. The hand represents a broken person, someone who is hurt, who is trying to reach out and pull themselves up with a thorny vine, showing the pain in healing. The added vines in the background symbolizing not being alone in what you are gong through, even if it feels that way. For this piece I used acrylic paint.
This piece is made of acrylic paint. The Mushroom in the foreground is holding a daisy above his head, as he tries to hide himself in a field of daisy. This piece shows trying to hide or change yourself, to fit in. Feeling out of place in your life.
Using acrylic paint, this piece shows a person reaching over the edge of a boat toward a waterfall. While the riverboat is trying to go the other way. This piece shows someone in a hard situation, feeling stuck to the issues they face. While an outside force tries to help, tries to pull them away from the edge. Influenced from my first piece, showing the healing process, and how rocky it can be,
The graphite of this piece depicts a person standing, staring onto a dark scene, what might have used to be a festival standing in ruin under dark sky. This piece shows how scary and stressful something can become, something that used to make you feel safe, feel happy, now brings you hopelessness and despair.
Depicted digitally, This piece shows what is meant to be the mind, being infiltrated by ghosts, representing the mind, and your imagination, being overtaken by a dark feeling. An intrusive state of mind.
With acryilic paint, this piece represents being feeling trapped in your mind, feeling isolated, where that litte spark inside of you dwindles, until you dont feel like yourself anymore. The painting depicts a woman hovering over her fire tending to it, representing trying to bring yourself back, your spark back. Surrounded by a thick wood, she is doing it alone.
