For this project, we studied the history of mandalas with our world history class. We studied how they have represented different cultures and religions, and how powerfully they can and have been used. During chemistry, we studied the different elements and their chemical makeup. Combining this knowledge in our art class, we created Mandalas for a specific element. Mine was copper. I designed my mandala so that the outer rings of the mandala were represented by the number of valence electrons re found in a copper atom. Overall, we were instructed to use color and patterns to make it appear more coherent to a culturally significant Mandala. Through this project, I learned about different cultures, science, and how all of these things can come together to form a unique object. To the side is the slideshow I created to document my research process as well as my final product.
Here are some photos that document the process of making my mandala, as well as the final piece.
