I think that this piece is going to be in a minor key and possibly quicker. After a 1st listen to the original version, the piece is in C minor and has many fast runs involved. Before listening to the harp ensemble version, I think it's going to be the same way just not as fast as we are more limited with speed. Looking at the music, I think the largest problem is going to be getting the piece faster without buzzing. As an ensemble, I think we are all at different levels so speeding it up in general could possibly be a problem. Also, after listening, the piece is definitely a longer arrangement.
Sebastian Erard patented the 1st double action pedal harp in 1810
Modern harps are now mainly made in america with comanies like Lyon & Healy, Salvi (Japan), Camac (France).
innovations from different countries include the Chinese Konghou
originated from a hunter's bow. it evolved even more with asian table harps like the Japenese Koto, Korean Kayagum, and Chinese guzheng
the invention of the column happened during medieval times in europe.
the more we moved throughout the years, the more innovations there were.
with early lever harps, they created easier ways for people to play but it was still only single action.
when creating the 1st pedal harp, it was only single action and with only 5-7 pedals. this is also the harp Mozart wrote his flute and harp concerto for.

I think that the harp arrangement of the piece will be really jazzy and have large amounts of syncopation. I am also very excited to make the noises that are in the original composition. After listening to the piece, I notice that it sounds just like the original. It also
Wade in the Water was a negro spiritual sung during slavery by slaves to help them communicate with each other. While listening to the piece, I heard a noise. It sounds like it is happening with your hand covering the harp and doing a nail gliss. I think the most challenging part for this piece are the bisbigliando at the end as I have never done them before.
Sonata en Re is another piece we are playing in harp class for the GMEA conference. Before listening to this piece, I thought that this piece would be in a minor key, change to its relative major, then back to its minor. After listening to the piece and having the score, my prediction was completely wrong. The piece was in a major key, and sounded quite happy unlike other sonata's I have heard. The challenges for this piece may be the repeated notes in the piece.
Spanish Dance No.1 is a piece we are playing in harp class. Before listening to it, I think it will be in a harmonic minor key, fast, and involve syncopation or complicated rhythms. After listening to it for the first time, I was correct about certain points. It was a very fast piece and also had complex rhythm but was in a minor key starting off. After being given the score, it is definitely a complicated composition but I think my advanced class can handle it.
People began using abstraction in modernist art in order to take the main essence or idea of their subject and simplifying it to colors, lines, and shapes which allowed them to express emotions in a more direct way. This relates to African art because in pictures of abstract African art, many of their drawings tell a story just like in modern abstraction. Abstract art could be related to math due to the geometric shapes and linear structure of elements in the abstraction. Data can be used to make abstract art by showing and visualizing patterns and/or trends within topics that the art is about. I like to work in a more expressive way because the artwork would come more from me instead of from a piece of data that I strictly need to follow and expose.
This piece sounds very complicated and maybe for more advanced harpist above my level. However, depending on the focus that I have on the piece, it may come easier over time. A personal goal I have for this piece is to play the scale with good technique and speed.
Something I've been taught in art this year that relates to other classes was mandalas. Mandalas not only relates to art but also to history and how they came to be. Something I've done so far that demonstrates the Principles of Design and Elements of art was the Sill Life Project I did with pastels. I used almost each principle of design and every single element of art. I experiment with different possibilities during my planning and process because of trial and error. I can show this process by doumenting and taking pictures. One famous historic artwork I have learned about is Kehinde Wiley's Obama painting.
Our project went well because we finished before our due date and each had time to do our extra work etc. One thing that needed to be fixed or changed was the distribution of work. Me and another group member were the main people doing the work and others just contributed occasionally. Some enjoyable things was actually drawing and coloring the mandala. If I was the teacher, I would allow students to pick there groups and give them smaller elements so that way people could have more smaller mandalas and could maybe do multiple small ones.
The mandala is used for spiritual healing and to show the end of one's suffering and the beginning of one's joy as well as for meditation. Clinical studies have been done and it shows that mandalas help with reducing stress, boost your immunne system, promote sleep and ease depression. In Southern Asia, the mandala was used to show political structure and describing the diffuse of political power. Principles of Design that I see is balance, pattern, and movement. You could use the outer layers of the mandala to show the electron cloud and different orbitals etc. and the center to show the nucleus which includes protons and neutrons.
During class today, we did our first day of filming. Our group used my phone to help capture the shot. Overall everything went fine, but whenever our group split up for different tasks, we weren't as productive. Other than that, our group recorded 1 full scene, sound effects, and part of the other backgrounds.
During class today, we worked on the last scenes for our script. Our group diligently worked to get the rest of our script mostly finished. We assigned people with 1 scene to help move the script along faster.
I have only seen the Nutcracker once when I was very young. Its a play about a girl named Clara who is gifted a Nutcracker doll from her Uncle. In the second half of the ballet, the Nutcracker Prince and Clara travel across the land of sweets and many other different places.
Artificial Intelligence is a form of technology. This could help artist gain artistic ideas in order to help them create art. This could also be used to help students with topics and other forms of work.
Today, in class, we had a special guest. He gave a workshop on writing and how to feel your character itself.
Today in class, we began working on the script of our play. The goal our teacher gave us was to have at least 2 scenes written. We wrote about a scene and a half because we had a guest coming in next class.
Today, in class, we worked on the G.R.A.P.E.S method. We researched different topics based on the Ancient Civilization we had which was the Han dynasty. This will most likely help us with when we begin writing our script.
In my group, we worked on our projects. The first thing we started with was creating a group contract. We put norms in place in order to hold each person accountable for there section of work.
Art is everything. It can be anything. Art is what you view it as and what your perception of it is. Two forks attached together can be art, it may not look like it to you but it could be art to someone else. Even noise is art in itself. Some may not percieve it as art but to someone else it could be.
When she began with "Lift Every Voice and Sing", I was amazed by the technique of the different rolled chords and quick arpeggios. On the start of "Brand New Life", I automatically thought that this piece what definitely jazz just because of the quality of the piece. The syncopated rythmns and the bass of the guitar just seemed like it was a jazz like rythmn. Also on the harp solo in "Brand New Life", I love the way that they close in on Ms. Younger is something you wouldn't see everyday in the harp world. In the piece "Moving Target", this piece I would also consider jazz as well. In the beginning, she does a technique that seems to be really fast with her hands when she muffles and possibly changes a pedal as well. She also does many fast arpeggios while the vocalist vocalizes in the background which makes it sound like a wonderful song for a sunset. Unrest is one of my favorite compositions from Brandee Younger. Her technique in the first movement of the piece seems to be having her go lower on the strings. The piece moves back in the first movement with a deeper and low feel while the second movement has more instruments in it.
In weddings, I know that many people have had many different concepts of what weddings should look like. From what I have seen, the groom begins first followed by the parents, then followed by the bridal party. After everybody passes, people then stand and watch the bride walk in. Many times, there are parties after and have music, food, dancing.
Unit 0 Reflection
Q1: The neolithic revolution led to many amazing things in society but also created injustices with many other things as well. Certain religions, like Hinduism, had a hierarchical social structure. For Hinduism, it was the caste system. There is no possible way to move up in the caste system unless it through reincarnation. People in lower castes were treated horribly. In some instances, people of higher castes were told to not even touch or be near them. Also in Ancient Rome, Christians were being persecuted. They would be burned, tortured, and even killed. In Ancient Greece, politicians came up with the idea of democracy in order to involve the citizens to have them involved in decisions. Women were not allowed to vote at all. They were also not allowed to leave the house for any reason. There jobs were to stay home, cook, clean, and obey their husbands.
Q2: In the Early Mesopotamia, they created irrigation systems which helped get water across different regions. The Ancient Egyptian civilization were one of the more mathematically advanced civilizations. They helped create the first dated calendar system which is fairly similar to what we use now. Ancient India was the most organized civilization. They planned out everything that would happen from the roads, to where everything would be. All the bricks were the same size as well. Ancient China mainly made different artifacts. They would normally make weapons, vases, containers, and figurines from jade and bronze.
Q3: In many circumstances, during the early moments of the Neolithic Revolution, some people were still trying to understand and familiarize themselves with this way of life. While moving around, trade would happen between different regions. Some of these regions were also religious which allowed them to spread religion.
Q4: Centralized government is when only one specific part of government is allowed to make decisions. Decentralized government is when power is distributed between different sections of the government. For example, in America, we have a decentralized government. We have a legislative, judicial, and executive branch. Each branch has a different amount of power. Executive would be the president which he makes a majority of decisions for the whole country. Judicial branch has control only over the state.
Q5: Patriarchy is a term I would want to remember. Patriarchy means dominion by males. History seems to have a repeating pattern of patriarchy popping up repetitively so I would want to remember that. Term 2 I would want to remember would be diaspora. Diaspora means the spread of people from one's original homeland. This topic also tends to repetitively pop up in history as well. The 3rd thing I would want to remember is what a city-state is. Ancient Greece had multiple city states like Athens and Sparta. This led to many different causes of war and many more conflicts. The 4th thing I would want to remember is democracy. Democracy is a very important part of ancient Greece and in present day. It allowed citizens to vote on everything which gave them a voice in government. The 5th term I would want to remember are centralized and decentralized governments. Many nations in present day have a decentralized or centralized government. It can be used to help analyze what the country is like and how it operates.
