Unit 0 Reflection (Before 1200)
Q1: The neolithic revolution led to many amazing things in society but also created injustices with many other things as well. Certain religions, like Hinduism, had a hierarchical social structure. For Hinduism, it was the caste system. There is no possible way to move up in the caste system unless it through reincarnation. People in lower castes were treated horribly. In some instances, people of higher castes were told to not even touch or be near them. Also in Ancient Rome, Christians were being persecuted. They would be burned, tortured, and even killed. In Ancient Greece, politicians came up with the idea of democracy in order to involve the citizens to have them involved in decisions. Women were not allowed to vote at all. They were also not allowed to leave the house for any reason. There jobs were to stay home, cook, clean, and obey their husbands.
Q2: In the Early Mesopotamia, they created irrigation systems which helped get water across different regions. The Ancient Egyptian civilization were one of the more mathematically advanced civilizations. They helped create the first dated calendar system which is fairly similar to what we use now. Ancient India was the most organized civilization. They planned out everything that would happen from the roads, to where everything would be. All the bricks were the same size as well. Ancient China mainly made different artifacts. They would normally make weapons, vases, containers, and figurines from jade and bronze.
Q3: In many circumstances, during the early moments of the Neolithic Revolution, some people were still trying to understand and familiarize themselves with this way of life. While moving around, trade would happen between different regions. Some of these regions were also religious which allowed them to spread religion.
Q4: Centralized government is when only one specific part of government is allowed to make decisions. Decentralized government is when power is distributed between different sections of the government. For example, in America, we have a decentralized government. We have a legislative, judicial, and executive branch. Each branch has a different amount of power. Executive would be the president which he makes a majority of decisions for the whole country. Judicial branch has control only over the state.
Q5: Patriarchy is a term I would want to remember. Patriarchy means dominion by males. History seems to have a repeating pattern of patriarchy popping up repetitively so I would want to remember that. Term 2 I would want to remember would be diaspora. Diaspora means the spread of people from one's original homeland. This topic also tends to repetitively pop up in history as well. The 3rd thing I would want to remember is what a city-state is. Ancient Greece had multiple city states like Athens and Sparta. This led to many different causes of war and many more conflicts. The 4th thing I would want to remember is democracy. Democracy is a very important part of ancient Greece and in present day. It allowed citizens to vote on everything which gave them a voice in government. The 5th term I would want to remember are centralized and decentralized governments. Many nations in present day have a decentralized or centralized government. It can be used to help analyze what the country is like and how it operates.
