The theme for our winter concert was the Nutcracker. My group played Waltz of the Flowers from the Nutcracker Suite which involved many pedal changes and key changes.
During this concert, I played my first ever concerto which was the Malecki double harp concerto with Drew's orchestra. The other piece we played was In the Mood by Joe Garland.
This project was in collaboration with theatre. The purpose of this project was in order to help us when we go out on wedding gigs. At gigs, especially at weddings, anything can happen and we needed to learn to watch and to know how to stop at any moment and make it intentional. First, in class, we talked about all that we knew about weddings and also did mock weddings in class to practice. We made it so anything could happen and even fake fights broke out as shown above which was hilarious. Then, we received a big packet of gig music and met with our couples for them to pick was music they wanted to play for which part like the recessional, processional, and prelude. We also went over different parts of in ceremony things that people might do like tree planting, candle lighting, or sand pouring. On the day of the wedding, crazy things happened like objections, people running out with other partners, and even crazy grandmas. Overall, this experience was amazing to do and helped me prepare for when this is real life and I go out for gigs.
John Legend is an American pianist and songwriter famous for many compositions including "All of Me". Written in 2013, John Legend stated that All of Me was written to express the love for his, at the time, fiance before committing for a lifetime of marriage. It also was his highest streaming song ever with over 2.2 billion plays on Youtube and over 2 billion streams on Spotify. I chose this piece after hearing the composition at multiple weddings, receptions, and even on the radio. It specifically hit home due to my aunt walking down the aisle to this song and her allowing me to be one of her mini bridesmaids. When playing for weddings, this song is requested many times throughout, so this gave me the idea to create a two-part harp duet for "All of Me".
