Course Description
Industrial Technology Stage 6 consists of project work and Industry Study that develop a broad range of skills and knowledge related to the industry focus area chosen, and an introduction to industrial processes and practices.
The Focus Area at St John’s is Timber Products and Furniture Technologies.
For whom is this subject intended
This course will suit students who enjoy:
1. Practical task orientated leaning experiences related to the design and production of timber furniture.
2. Working independently on self-directed exercises in a challenging learning environment.
3. Pursuing a growth model of success based on a determination to ‘build’ skills, capacity and a framework to underpin further learning post-high school.
Main Topics Covered
Year 11 course
The Year 11 course consists of project work and an industry study that provide a broad range of skills and knowledge related to the focus area chosen and an introduction to processes, skills and practices relevant to the design, management, communication and construction of practical projects.
HSC Course
The HSC course consists of the development, management and communication of a major practical project and folio that contribute to the development of knowledge, skills and understanding related to the focus area of study.
Both the Preliminary and HSC courses are organised around four sections:
A Industry Study
B Design, Management and Communication
C Production
D Industry Related Manufacturing Technology.
Particular Course Requirements
In the Year 11 course, students must design, develop and construct a number of projects. Each project must include a management folio. Students also undertake the study of an individual business related to the focus area.
In the HSC course, students must design, develop and construct a Major Project which includes a management folio. They also undertake a broad study of industry related to the specific business studied in the Year 11 course.
