Course Description
"Geography is the subject which holds the key to our future." The world in which we live is likely to change more in the next 50 years than it has ever done before. Geography explains why, and helps to prepare you for those changes.
Geography is a key discipline through which students develop the ability to recognise and understand the world around them. HSC geographers study and understand the complexities of their changing world by addressing key ideas and debates, such as climate change, globalisation, urban regeneration and management of the world’s resources. It also aims to provide a knowledge and understanding of physical processes and human behaviour.
For whom is this subject intended
Students who are interested in the world around them. Geography is useful in the fields of science, engineering, mathematics, computing, commerce, environmental studies, urban and regional planning, design, humanities, agriculture, resource management.

Key concepts incorporated across all topics: change, environment, sustainability, spatial and ecological dimensions, interaction, technology, spatial justice, management and cultural integration. Students use of a range of geographical skills such as interpreting maps, analysing graphs, conducting fieldwork.
Particular Course Requirements
Students complete a senior geography project (SGP) in the Year 11 course. A compulsory element of both the Preliminary and HSC courses is fieldwork activities. In order to complete, these students complete fieldwork on a number of compulsory excursions such as Shoalhaven Heads, Jamberoo Recreation Park and other areas.
