Prerequisite
This course is an extension of the English (Advanced) course taken in the Preliminary and HSC years. The Year 11 course is a prerequisite for the HSC Extension Course 1. English Extension 1 cannot be taken with English (Standard) Course. Students undertaking this course require a very high standard of literacy and a capacity to think analytically (A grade).
Course Description
In the Preliminary English (Extension) course students explore how and why texts are valued in and appropriated into a range of contexts. They consider why some texts may be perceived as culturally significant.
In the HSC English (Extension) Course 1, students explore ideas of value and consider how cultural values and systems of valuation arise.
For whom is this subject intended
This course is designed for Advanced English students with a love of literature and a passion for creative writing. Students selecting this course must have earned an A or B in English at Year 10 level.

Particular Course Requirements
The Preliminary English (Extension) course requires teachers prescribe ONE text from the past and its manifestations in one or more recent cultures. Students select ONE text and its manifestations in one or more recent cultures. Students research a range of texts as part of their independent project.
The HSC English (Extension) course 1 requires the study of at least THREE texts which must be selected from a prescribed text list for the module study including at least TWO extended print texts.
Students are required to study at least TWO related texts.
