Course Description
Students study the practices of Making, Performing and Critically Studying in Drama. Students engage with these components through collaborative and individual experiences. Year 11 course content comprises an interaction between the components of Improvisation, Playbuilding and Acting, Elements of Production in Performance and Theatrical Traditions and Performance Styles. Learning is experiential in these areas.
HSC Course content includes Australian Drama and Theatre and Studies in Drama and Theatre which involves the theoretical study and practical exploration of themes, issues, styles and movements of various styles of theatre exploring relevant acting techniques, performance styles and spaces.
The Group Performance of between 3 and 6 students, involves creating a piece of original theatre (8 to 12 minutes duration). It provides an opportunity for each student to demonstrate his or her performance skills.
For the Individual Project students demonstrate their expertise in a particular area. They choose one project from Critical Analysis in one of the following areas: Directing, Theatre Criticism, Applied Research; or Design in one of the following areas: Costume, Lighting, Promotion and Program, Set. They can also choose to make a short film, write a short play or perform a monologue.
For whom is this subject intended
There is no prior study of Drama required and this course is therefore aimed at any student willing to thoroughly immerse themselves in the learning experiences offered. This course is also for students who want to develop the capacity to be creative and critical thinkers who are able to communicate, collaborate and critically reflect on their learning and growth. Students who do this course will develop:
● The complex skills required to create and test ideas and generate creative works with confidence
● Skills in creative reasoning, independent decision making and reflective judgement
● The capacity to move from the abstract to the concrete from idea to representation and from concept to realization.
