Course Description
This course provides students the opportunity to cement their Indonesian language skills to an academic and business level of proficiency. The topics and skills covered during this course will prepare students to confidently read, write, listen and speak fluent Bahasa Indonesia for exam and real-world purposes.
The course will explore three main areas of study, the individual, the Indonesian speaking communities and the changing world, allowing for a range of fascinating topics and world-issues such as the environment, equality in Indonesia, Indonesian arts and crafts, the impact of tourism and the changing face of Indonesia to name a few. Students will develop fluent language skills to communicate about these topics and more using their Indonesian language skills.
For whom is this subject intended
This subject is designed for students who have completed stage 5 (year 9-10) Indonesian language students. Suitable students for this course are those who have developed outstanding Indonesian language skills across all disciplines, including reading, writing, speaking and listening. To determine whether this is you, you should feel confident using Indonesian language to discuss matters of significance in and to your life.
Indonesian Continuers is a rigorous course that demands a high level of consistent study and revision of Indonesian vocabulary and skills both in and outside the classroom. A student selecting this course must be able to set aside consistent time outside of school to master their Indonesian vocabulary.
This course allows for students to use Indonesian language for travel purposes, business opportunities and tertiary study. Firstly, travel; students would be able to fluently communicate with all Indonesian citizens while exploring the vast archipelago. Secondly, business; opportunities in the defence force as translators or linguist analysts, education and research, government, trade and many more. Finally, tertiary study; completing the Stage 6 Indonesian Continuers course allows students to be fast-tracked through the first year of their Indonesian language study at university, thus they enrol in 2nd year Indonesian language in first year university, providing unit allocation at the end of their course for further language study and/or a smaller workload.
