Dear NJHS Members,
This is a follow-up to what I shared in the gym when I welcomed you to NJHS. As members, you are expected to uphold the five pillars of the National Junior Honor Society, and service is one of them. Part of this commitment includes completing 10 hours of service, but more importantly, it’s about engaging in meaningful work that challenges you to grow.
Off-Site Requirement: Your service project must take place outside of school. This ensures that you step into new environments and make a real-world impact.
Meaningful Engagement: Choose a project that serves a deeper purpose, particularly in areas like homelessness and hunger. The goal is to be the hands and feet of Christ—serving with compassion and purpose.
Step Outside Your Comfort Zone: Avoid the easy route. Choose an opportunity that challenges you and take the road less traveled, where your service will truly make a difference.
If you're unsure where to serve, consider these options:
Family Promise – Supports families experiencing homelessness through shelter, meals, and resources.
The Table Public House
The Action Center – Offers food, clothing, and essential services to underserved individuals.
Organizations Fighting Homelessness & Hunger – Find one that speaks to you and commit to making a difference.
Your 10 hours of service must be completed by May 13. Please plan accordingly to ensure you meet this requirement on time.
Choose a Service Opportunity – Find an organization that aligns with our mission.
Plan & Commit – Contact them, schedule your service, and follow through.
Reflect & Report – After your experience, consider what you learned and how you grew.
Your 10 hours of service are not just about fulfilling a requirement—they’re about challenging yourself and making a real impact. Go out, serve boldly, and embrace the opportunity to grow!
