Over the last couple of years our family surveys emphasized a desire for more parent-teacher interaction and conversation, while still maintaining the importance of student voice.
We’re always working to improve our practices, and this year’s conference model is a tangible example of how we’re doing that.
This fall, we’re introducing a hybrid approach that begins with a short student reflection and transitions into a focused parent-teacher conversation.

If you have a specific question or concern about a particular class, please schedule a separate meeting outside of the conference hours to discuss it with the teacher.
Conferences are for parents and teachers only. Students will not attend this portion in person.
Their recorded reflection serves as their voice in the process.
This month, teachers are meeting to discuss each student’s strengths and areas for needed growth. These insights will help guide the parent-teacher conversation, making each conference meaningful and student-focused.
Student Self-Reflection (3–5 minute recording)
Each student will record a short reflection (3–5 minutes) sharing about their school year so far—highlighting academic habits, areas of growth, and personal celebrations.
This recording will be played at the start of the conference so parents and teachers can hear directly from the student first.
Parent-Teacher Conversation (10 minutes)
After listening to the recording, parents and teachers will spend approximately 10 minutes in conversation.
This discussion will be guided by a Work Habits and Citizenship document, completed collaboratively by the grade-level and specials teachers.
Parents will receive a copy to take home, and a digital record will be kept for consistency across conferences.
Centers the Student: The reflection allows the student’s perspective to lead the discussion.
Focuses on the Whole Child: Conferences highlight academic, social, and spiritual growth.
Provides Structure & Purpose: The shared document keeps conversations focused and productive.
Supports Partnership: Parents leave with a clear reference for continued dialogue at home.
We’re excited about this new approach and believe it will strengthen our partnership between home and school while continuing to highlight student ownership and growth.
