Dear DCMS Families,
For many years, our middle school students have raked lawns as part of our service day. This year, we want to make the experience more personal and meaningful by connecting it directly to our students and their communities.
Instead of raking for people we don’t know, we’d love to serve families who are important to our students. Here’s how it works:
Think of someone within 20 minutes of school (a neighbor, family member, friend, or church connection) whose lawn work would be a blessing.
Reach out to them and ask if they would like their lawn raked on Friday, November 7.
Once you have confirmation, please fill out this quick form with their information: Service Day Lawn Raking Form.
We hope this shift allows our students to see how their service can directly impact people they know and care about, while still blessing our wider community.
Thank you for helping us make this year’s service project a meaningful one.
Every day is a blessing,
Dr. Amidon
9:10am: Drivers arrive -- meet on the playground basketball courts to receive directions from Dr. Amidon and Mrs. DeHaan
9:25am: Students find their drivers
9:30am: Leaf raking groups depart from school
2:10pm: Arrive back to school (NO SOONER than 2:00 pm)
When you return, you may drop off the students, but if you'd like to take your child and leave for the day, that would be totally fine.
If you would like to be a chaperone/driver please click here to complete the form.
On Friday, November 7, the Middle School students will be leaving campus at 9:30am for our annual leaf raking day. This is one tangible way we are able to fulfill our mission statement in engaging God’s world with Christ’s transforming love and power.
As you can imagine, there are quite a few details that need to come together to send 240 middle school students out into the neighboring communities to rake leaves!
The goal is to rake between over 115 homes.
Approximately 4 students and the chaperone driver will head out into the community and rake leaves for the elderly or for others that are unable to rake their own leaves.
Each group will be assigned a minimum of two homes to rake (addresses will be given to the drivers that morning).
Rake (drivers are encouraged to bring a rake too)
