Each assignment (for example, a daily assignment, a project, a long term paper) has a specific due date.
In order to receive full credit for an assignment, the assignment must be submitted on or before the due date
Assignments can be submitted up to 2 weeks after the due date however, the late policy below goes into effect.
For each day the assignment is late there will be a 10% reduction in the maximum grade.
For example, a 50 point assignment that is turned in one day late, the maximum grade that assignment can earn is 45 (10% off of the 50 point maximum). Turned in two days late means the assignment has a maximum grade of 40.
Meaning, if the assignment would have earned a 50 out of 50 if turned in on time but is one day late it will score a 45/50.
The lowest the grade can be on an assignment that is turned in late will be 50% off. So the above example would be 25/50 at the lowest.
However, all assignments must be turned in on the day the assessment is given, which marks the end of a unit. Therefore, not all assignments will have the full two week grace period.
Bell ringers are to be done in class only. Typically, at the beginning of the class period. These may not be made up if not completed on time. However, if the student is absent, the bell ringer will be excused.
Generally speaking, parents should expect students to have “up to” approximately 10 minutes per grade level of homework (e.g. 3rd grade would have up to 30 minutes/evening).
Teachers will give clear guidelines/expectations/due dates for assignments; as students get older, teachers will expect the student to take on more responsibility regarding homework.
Elementary homework is communicated through weekly newsletters and/or assignment books; 6th-12th grade homework is posted to Canvas.
Homework not completed on time will receive a reduction in grade; any assignments not completed before the end of unit assessment may receive a zero.
Student Illness Homework Makeup Policy -- When missing school due to illness, students have the number of days absent plus one to make up all work and assessments. In special circumstances, teachers may work with the student/family to arrange a different schedule.
It is the student’s responsibility to check in with the teacher upon return to school after an absence.
