Don was a 1948 graduate at Denison High School. Upon graduating from high school, he began his teaching career at East Boyer #8 and #5. He then continued teaching seven years at Charter Oak. In 1962 Don taught art at Denison Community School in all levels. His added responsibilities were his Yearbook, Monarch News, and helping with set up for the State Academic Decathlon competition. He moved from art to senior high counselor until retirement from the Denison High School. Don continued teaching college courses at Western Iowa Tech and at Des Moines Area Community College - Carroll campus, specifically art appreciation. For many years he taught Sunday School and Bible class; he was past congregational president at Our Savior Lutheran Church.
