Bernie was a 1946 graduate of Denison High School. Upon college graduation, Bernie taught and coached at the high level. Later he became the Executive Director of the Iowa High School Athletic Association for 37 years. He was sought as a motivational speaker at many high school events throughout Iowa. Bernie was instrumental in the establishment of the Iowa Hall of Pride in Des Moines.
