Access to rigor is definitely a strength. All AVID students take at least an honors course in their freshman and sophomore years. All AVID students take at least one AP, dual-enrollment, or college-level online course during their junior or senior years. They have a variety of choices offered here.
Data collection and analysis of the data is a great strength. EVAAS data is used regularly by administrators and teachers to drive instruction and remediation. AVID data is discussed regularly at Site Team meetings in an effort to drive current and future goals. Also ACT data is collected along with GPA data for our students.
Our tutors have been trained by the following different ways:
a)Tutorology Path Training held in September 2022 with Chuck Hennessee (7 staff members including the 3 AVID elective teachers),
b)Tutorial training by Bailey Allison (AVID trainer) for ECSU students, adult staff members and retired teachers. Held in October 2022.
c) Tutorial training by Bailey Allison for the dual-enrolled seniors. Held in January 2023.
The AVID elective is well managed by the Administration and the Site Team. The AVID school’s mission and vision is also the School Improvement Team’s mission and vision. We have 100% buy in by our AVID Site Team.
100% of all AVID seniors have been accepted to a two or four-year college/university.
Our AVID elective students to a great job getting community service hours and we have a school Community Service website to help all students identify areas where they can serve.
Our plan is to have all AVID classes meet during the same period year long.
Dual-enrolled students and additional staff(as needed) will be trained as AVID tutors at the start of the school year.
We plan to have more AVID parent meetings next year.
We have plans for the Middle School AVID Teacher to be a part of our AVID Site Team to do grade-level vertical and horizontal articulation.
