Manteo High School displays college pennants in the hallways, counseling office, media center, and classrooms. We also have flags and posters that visually advertise specific careers. We have gathered these pennants, flags, and posters over the years by building connections within the community.
Our CTE coordinator visits our AVID elective classes and other schoolwide courses and shows the students how to use a software platform entitled "Major Clarity". It helps students look at their personal learning styles, career options, and colleges/universities that match with those careers. This software platform is available to all secondary students in our district.
In working with our Beginning Teachers, our ITF and Coach, has built in AVID strategies to share with our new teachers. Our new teachers have established classroom norms and procedures that model what we expect from our college and career going students.
Our MHS AVID Class of 2023 Spreadsheet what colleges our AVID Seniors class applied to, where they were accepted, where they plan to attend, and what grants and scholarships they received to help pay for their tuition. This is a fluid document and changes will be updated as information is received.
On 3/29/23 our college advisor, Ms. DiBenedetto, Mr. Hunting, and our guidance counselor, Mr. Ellington had a college application workshop to help complete their RDS and FAFSA for students who have not started yet. As of April 2023, 24 out of 26 of our AVID Seniors have completed the FAFSA.
On 4/4/23 our college advisor has arranged to have two speakers from UNC Greenesboro to give a presentation on what a financial aid award letter means. One of the speakers was bilingual and could answer questions both in Spanish and English.
