Extra explore time

Figure drawing

Guys! are you an anime fan? Manga? Comic books?

Here are some videos that you may find interesting! Watch some great artists and learn what you can from them!

Drawing a cat

This is how I spent my holiday break. Zoe LOVES cats, and requests that I draw them any time we draw together! Here's what I do...

Ornament Dough

To the right is a quick video Mrs. Mapson, Zoe and I made as we made some ornaments for our tree! It's easy! here's the recipe... (you might need mom or dad's help ask first)

1 1/4 cup Baking Soda

3/4 cup Cornstarch

3/4 cup water

Mix in pan over medium heat. Keep stirring, it'll thicken up pretty quickly over a couple of minutes once it gets hot. DON"T let it dry out too much! You're looking for Mashed Potato consistency. Use parchment paper to roll out your dough, use cookie cutters or something similar to make cut outs or impressions. Set the cut outs on a sheet of parchment paper to dry, and in a day or two, paint them!Enjoy!

I've been relying a LOT on these guys for drawing videos for you guys. It's time I gave them credit where credit is due! This family rocks! GO check out the Art for Kids Hub website! They have TONS of art lessons for all ages, give their videos a like and subscribe! You'll be happy you did!

Drawing a Unicorn

For my live class today, it was requested that we draw a unicorn among many other things. We MAY not be able to get to it today, so I found this cool video that can show you how to do it!

Enjoy!

Drawing Cars

I had a request for drawing cars. Here are a couple of videos to look at when you're trying to learn. The top video is pretty advanced, but worth a watch just to see what it takes to get it right.

The bottom video is for beginners. Try that one if you're just starting.

Scooby doo!

So, I had a request asking how to draw Scooby Doo.Honestly, he's not a character that I'm very good at, and I could SORT of teach it. BUT I found this video by Tony Cervone. If you want to learn how to draw Scooby from an expert, this is your guy! He's been an animator and a director and a producer for LOTs of Scooby Doo projects, as well as other favorites such as Tom and Jerry.

Make your own Playdough!

Looking for something fun to do this weekend? Grab your mom or dad and have some fun making your own playdough. Below the video is the recipe so you can print it if you like, but watch Mrs. Mapson and Zoë show you how to do it!

FYI, I make no claims to have come up with this recipe myself, I found it HERE. There's TONS of fun stuff for kids there! Check it out if you're looking for more fun things to do!

OMG!!!

Guys! I'm SO  Psyched! The book "How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way" was a book that changed my life as an artist! When I was in 6th grade I started to LOVE comic books. I started drawing them. I made a lot of really BAD drawings, but I still loved it even though I was bad at it. I had taken a few classes on drawing cartoons and super heroes, but it wasn't until my mom found this book for me that I started to put all the pieces together and understand what it takes!

I found this video when I was looking for cool things for you guys to do during extra explore time. It stars Stan Lee!

What?! you don't know who Stan Lee is?! He's the guy that created Spider Man, The Incredible Hulk, X-Men, Captain America, Ant Man, Thor (Ok, well, Thor was already pretty popular) and SO many others!

This video is a LONG one (and old too, Stan Lee passed away in 2018), and you're welcome to not watch if you don't want to. But if you have ever been even remotely interested in drawing super heroes or comic books of any kind (yes Anime too) this is a FANTASTIC place to start! Even if you don't draw anything, it's a fun thing to watch and learn from.

Drawing time!

On the left is a video that has some cool drawing for kids. Check it out!

If you're a little older or more advanced, check out the second video! Jazza has a pretty cool channel!

Extra Explore time

So you've made it! You've got some extra explore time. Watch the video to the left and give it a try... Don't sweat it if this is a little difficult. This week is all about navigating around our E Learning environment.

Below are LAST years projects.

Anime week!

SO many of you have begged me to teach Anime drawing. Well, to be perfectly honest, I'm not that good at Anime! Most of you guys are much better than me!
Here are a couple of youtube videos that are a good start, but feel free to find your own and show me what you can do! When you are done, click the "art" drop down menu above, and go to this weeks gallery "Making someone smile" and submit your work right there! (just click the pink + in the bottom corner)

Disney week!

Goofy has always been one of my favorite Disney characters. I've taught almost this exact drawing (I could use a refresher myself!) to many classes this year. Give it a shot and see if you benefit at all from a different instructor (or a better artist?) teaching you.
Feel free to check out the Disney Parks youtube channel and check out all the drawing tutorials! There are a TON! Enjoy!

Matching game!

So, last week we had a TON of fantastic submissions on our Padlet.com page for our Recreation Week. Here's a fun activity... Go to the Padlet page HERE,  and also open the MoMA link HERE . See if you can match up the student work with the actual artwork! Feel free to comment on student work that you think is particularly amazing!

On the left is one of my favorite examples from last week. Nolan did an amazing job of including details he saw in the original painting!

Continuing art with ordinary objects...

Take a look at this short Claes Oldenburg video. Claes created "soft sculptures" of ordinary objects and foods. Use some paper and see if you can create a "soft sculpture" of something ordinary.

You may also want to check out The Museum of Modern Art for their free online courses!

Nature week Continued

Since it's Art in Nature week, let's look at drawing some landscapes! Check out the video to the left.
(Warning, The Circle Line Art School can be a little advanced, but he's fantastic! Check out his channel)
