Codes - Understanding Academic Term codes

There are 4 charactors (char) in the code

First Char: = year "0" - 1900-1999 & "1" = 2000-+

Second & Third Chars = actual year

72 = 1972, 98=1998, 21=2021"

Fourth Char = 3 = Spring, 5 = Summer, 9 = Fall term

Examples: 0725 represents summer of 1972, 0983 represents spring of 1998, and 1219 represents fall 2021

Academic Program Codes

Academic "programs" in the following coding structure in PeopleSoft are the organizational "entity" in which a student is "admitted to" and from which they may or may not "graduate" or "complete" an academic program.

It controls: Academic calendars, academic policy, academic tuition and some fees, etc.

Academic Plans & Codes

An Academic Plan can be a major, minor, or certificate program that has a U of MN degree associated with it.

An Academic Plan can also be tracking placeholder that does not lead to a degree or a certificate. (Pre majors, Additional majors, PSEO, CITS, guest students, etc).

Commonly Used Terms

  • ICT - Intercampus student decision to change (transfer) between UMD Colleges & Schools (CEHSP to CAHSS, or SCSE to LSBE, etc)

  • IUT - Interuniversity Transfer Student (Student started out as degree seeking at another UMN campus before coming to UMD)

  • MULT - A student who is attending classes on a UMN campus that is not their "home" primary campus

  • NAS - New, Advanced Academic Standing (AKA transfer student at time of admission)

  • NHS - New, High School Student (student may/may not have transfer credit but this is their first post secondary educational experience after K-12/secondary education)
