Main cultivated varieties in Taiwan
There are many varieties of pineapples available for economic cultivation in Taiwan. Currently, the recommended fresh edible varieties include Kaiying’s Tumu line, Tainong No. 4, Tainong No. 6, Tainong No. 11, Tainong No. 13, and Tainong No. 16 , Tainong No. 17, Tainong No. 18 and Tainong No. 19 and other varieties.

The plant is smaller than the normal one, the leaves are narrow and slender, the leaf edges are thornless, the fruit is short, round and simple, the fruit eyes are slightly protruding, the fleshy fruit ratio is high, about 70%, the flesh is transparent golden yellow, and the average fruit weight is 1.3 Kilogram, suitable for fresh consumption. The disadvantage is that the crown buds are prone to multiple combs or combs, and the optimum period for fruit production is May to June.

Commonly known as "Sakya Pineapple", it is also called "Peeled Pineapple" because the fruit can be cut into 2 or 4 equal parts lengthwise and peeled in order with your fingers without peeling the peel. The plant is small, with thorns on the leaf edges, and the fruit is round and simple. However, the fruits produced in early spring are mostly tower-shaped or cone-shaped, with protruding fruit eyes. The meat is fine, with less texture and rich flavor. The juice rate is low, the sugar content is about 19.5 Brix, the acidity is about 0.43%, the sugar-acid ratio is 45, and the average single fruit weight is 1.2 kg. Due to its resistance to storage and transportation, it was once one of Taiwan's main fresh fruit export varieties. The normal fruit production period is June to July, but the production period can be adjusted, and the optimum production period is March to May.

Apple Pineapple
Because the fruit has an apple aroma, it is commonly known as "apple pineapple". The surface of the leaves is green and slightly reddish, with spines on the edges. The fruit is round or short-round, with thin peel, fine pulp fiber, soft, crisp and dense flesh, and rich juice. The sugar content is about 15.05 Brix, the acidity is about 0.34%, the sugar-acid ratio is 44, and the flavor is good. The average fruit weight is 1.3 kilograms, making it one of the most popular fresh food varieties in the consumer market. The optimum period for fruit production is April to May.

Because the fruit has a special aroma, it is commonly known as "perfume pineapple". The plant is medium-sized, the leaves are upright, the leaf margins are thornless, the fruit is cylindrical, and the fruit head is slightly protruding. The pulp has fine fiber, lots of juice, and is slightly acidic. The sugar content is about 14.8 Brix, the acidity is about 0.57%, the sugar-to-acid ratio is 26, and the average fruit weight is 1 kilogram. It is quite resistant to storage and transportation, and the optimum period for fruit production is May to June.

The product name is "Winter Honey Pineapple". The plant is tall and has long upright leaves. Sporadic small thorns are common at the tips and bases of the leaves. The leaves are grass green but the central axis is purple-red. The fruit is slightly conical, with slightly protruding eyes. The flesh is golden yellow, the fiber is slightly thick, the sugar content is about 15.7, the Brix acidity is about 0.27%, the sugar-acid ratio is 58, and the pineapple has a unique and rich flavor. The average fruit weight is 1.2 kg. The normal production period is from late June to mid-July, but it can be produced year-round by adjusting the production period, because Tainong No. 13 is the most suitable variety for production in autumn and winter among all varieties. Therefore, the optimum period for fruit production can be arranged from August to February of the following year.

The product name is "Sweet Honey", except for the leaf tip, the leaf margin has no thorns, and the central axis of the leaf surface is light purple-red with raised stripes. The fruit is long conical or slightly oval, with slightly protruding eyes. The pulp has extremely fine texture and a tender texture. The sugar content is about 18 Brix, the acidity is about 0.47%, the sugar-acid ratio is 38, and the flavor is good. The average fruit weight is 1.3 kg. The normal fruit production period is July to August, but the best production period is March to June in Kaohsiung and Pingtung areas, and April to July in Chiayi area.

The product name is "Golden Gold". The plant is medium-sized, with no thorns on the leaf margin except the leaf tip. The leaf surface is slightly brownish red, and the two ends are grass green. The fruit is round and simple in shape, with thin skin, shallow color cavity, dark yellow or golden flesh, fine flesh, slightly larger core but tender and edible. The sugar content is about 14.1Brix, the acidity is about 0.28%, the sugar-acid ratio is 50, and the taste and flavor All are good, with an average fruit weight of 1.4 kg. The normal fruit production period is from June to August, but the optimum production period is from March to May.
8.Tainong No. 18
The product name is "Golden Osmanthus". The plant is small, the leaf margins are thornless, the leaf surface is green but the central axis is slightly dark red. The fruit is conical in shape, with slightly protruding eyes, thin skin, shallow color cavity, yellow or golden flesh, medium fiber thickness, sugar content of about 14.1 Brix, acidity of about 0.39%, sugar-acid ratio 39, and a sweet-scented osmanthus aroma. The average fruit weight is 1.5 kg. The normal fruit production period is June to August, but the optimum production period is March to May.

The plant with the trade name "Miba" is small, with no thorns on the leaf margins except for the apex of the leaves, and the leaves are dark green. The fruit is round and simple in shape, with a large number of small fruits, thin skin, shallow color cavity, golden flesh, fine flesh, fine fiber, sugar content of about 16.7 Brix, acidity of about 0.46%, sugar-acid ratio of 38, and an average single fruit weight of 1.6 kg. The normal fruit production period is June to July, and the optimum production period is April to July and October to November.
