Taiwan is a kingdom of fruits, and pineapple is one of its representatives. Today, Taiwan’s pineapple cakes are Taiwan’s representative souvenirs, but most people may not know that Taiwan was the world’s top producer of canned pineapples for a period after World War II, and its origins were established during the Japanese occupation. The main production areas of pineapples are Fengshan and Dashu in the south, and Changhua and Yuanlin in the center.

Therefore, the beginning of canned pineapples is also related to these two major producing areas. The Dashu area has become a major pineapple production area due to its environmental and climatic conditions suitable for pineapple growth. Jiuqutang once had 11 pineapple canning factories due to the railway station setting up, so it is convenient for transportation. Currently, only the third one of the Taifang Chamber of Commerce is left. The three buildings of the Fourth Factory and the Fourth Factory are the only remaining pineapple canning industry buildings from the Japanese colonial period in Taiwan.

Taifang Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1918 by Ye Jintu, a businessman from Dadaocheng, Taipei. Ye Jintu was one of the early Taiwanese businessmen after the Japanese and Taro Okamura founded the pineapple canned industry. He was called pineapple because of his fortune in the pineapple canned industry. king. The Taifang Chamber of Commerce established six factories in Yuanlin and Dashu, the production areas of pineapples in Taipei. The third and fourth factories were established in Jiuqutang in 1925, and the fifth factory was established in Xianzaijiao in 1930.
After World War II, it became the residence of the National Army Automobile Maintenance Factory, called Jiuqu New Village, and was successively renovated. The family members moved out in 2003, and it was registered as a historical building in 2004. After the restoration was completed in 2017, it was revitalized, reused and reopened in August 2018.
