HISTORY-Canned History
Kaohsiung Dashu Pineapple Taiwan Pineapple Factory
Taiwan has a long history of planting pineapples. It can be seen from the map of Taiwan in the Qing Dynasty that the big tree has the name "Wanglaishan", indicating that someone was planting pineapples on the big tree at that time. During the Japanese occupation, Taiwan's canned pineapple industry emerged because the transportation technology at the time was unable to export fresh pineapples.
In the 1970s, Taiwan exported 4.1 million boxes of canned pineapples, making it the country that exported the most canned pineapples in the world at that time! During the Japanese occupation, there were as many as 81 pineapple canning factories in Taiwan. They were very popular for a while, but there is only one remaining in Taiwan today. After many years of vicissitudes, there are still three buildings from that time that have been registered as historical buildings by the Kaohsiung City Government. After renovation by the Municipal Cultural Affairs Bureau, it was reborn and transformed into the "Taiwanese Pineapple Factory".
The exhibition content of the park is based on the local cultural characteristics of Dashu and the development history of Taiwanese pineapples and canned food. The biggest feature of the museum is the display of more than 50 canned pineapple labels, which are said to be the largest in Taiwan. It also provides can sealing experience.
