PLANTING-Environment
Although pineapples are produced in Taiwan all year round, pineapples are suitable for planting in an environment with year-round warmth, sufficient sunshine, and an evenly distributed environment. Because pineapples are tropical fruits, they are not frost-tolerant and are a plant with strong drought tolerance. Therefore, the quality depends on the season. Pineapples in spring and summer are relatively sweet, while pineapples in winter are sour and not suitable for eating directly. However, there are still good quality pineapples in winter. Planting pineapples not only requires a place that is warm all year round, but also requires good aeration, good drainage, and deep sandy loam soil with a pH value between 4.5 and 6.0. Areas with frost in winter, poor drainage, high manganese or lime content in the soil, and neutral and alkaline soil are not suitable for growing wind pears. Most of the natural production periods of pineapples are from June to August every year, but the peak production period is from April to July. The acidity of pineapples is reduced and the flavor is sweeter.
