Here you will find a list of free technology tools that you can try with your student. If your student has an IEP, the tools might be considered "assisitive technology" for that student.

Text-to-speech is available on all Chromebooks (See also "How to set up text-to-speech in CVUSD")
Other options for free TTS online:
Read Aloud: Chrome extension that gets great reviews for having a more natural voice than the on-board reader.
Mercury Reader: extension which removes clutter from websites, making it easier for TTS to work
Rewordify: website which simplifies text that you copy and paste from a website
Open Dyslexic Font for Chrome: extension which changes all websites into the OpenDyslexic font, making them easier to read.
AutoHighlight: Chrome extension that automatically highlights the important points from a page of text. If the student reads just the highlights, they'll get a summary of the article.
Bookshare.org is a great resource for students with IEPs and 504 plans (See also "How to set up Bookshare in CVUSD"). They also have a collection of books that are free for anyone.

Evernote is available on the Chrome Web Store for free. It can be downloaded to any student's CVUSD Chrome account and allows them to organize class notes, include drawings or audio recordings, and annotate on PDFs.
