Parents, please visit this website to learn about how you can get your student access to Bookshare's entire collection, not just the books that have been downloaded for them by their teachers.
Any of your students with 504 plans or IEPs can get books for free on Bookshare.org. Contact me to be added as a sponsor on the CVUSD Bookshare account. Once you are a sponsor, you can add student members and help manage their books.
After you log in, to add students, click "Members" on the left hand side, then the "Add Member" (plus sign) button, then follow the prompts onscreen. You will need to know the student's first and last name, date of birth, current grade, and disability category (visual, learning impairment, or physical). You will also need to create a username and password for the student.
Once your student is added, please check out this help page to learn how to add books to a student's account: https://www.bookshare.org/cms/help-center/how-do-i-assign-books-members-so-they-can-read-them-their-own . After that you can provide them with their login information, and they're all set. You can share the above video with them to help them learn about the features of Bookshare.
Please note that you must either (1) assign the appropriate books to them or (2) have their parents help with completing an application for an individual membership which allows the student to browse and download books on their own. If you want to provide students with individual memberships, please see the following two articles with more information:
