Every month, I write a newsletter to all SDC Teachers and SLPs who were working with AAC users. Each newsletter focuses on themes of promoting language/literacy, autonomy/self-determination, and/or social skills for AAC users. Often I will share some of the best ideas that I hear about from professional development sessions I've attended or books that I've read, but in a shorter, "tip of the month" format. CVUSD Staff Members can download copies from the past four years on the AT Shared Drive.
In Fall of 2022, we had many new staff members who needed to learn about AAC! I decided to revise and update my older "Giving Children a Voice" newsletter and create a series of 10 weekly, "New to AAC" newsletters. CVUSD Staff Members can download copies from the AT Shared Drive.
In Spring of 2023, I wrote a 10-week series of newsletters geared towards teachers, paraprofessionals, and SLPs of students with visual impairment and AAC. The newsletter covered many important topics such as understanding CVI, teaching yes/no, partner-assisted scanning, PODD, and more! CVUSD Staff Members can download copies from the AT Shared Drive.
Between August and December 2019, I wrote a weekly newsletter to all paraprofessionals in CVUSD about teaching children to use AAC. The newsletter focused on 10 key skills that every communication partner needs to have, in order to work with AAC users. It starts with understanding the technology, then moves on to how to teach the child. You can download the complete set of 11 email newsletters below! Keep a printed copy in your classroom or home, read it at your leisure, but please don't copy without giving me credit as the author :).
