Log on, Writing Invitation: I post a slide with a writing invitation for students to do a quick write to warm them up. (15 minutes)
Check-in (5-10 minutes)
Mini-lesson: This is the focus for the day, such as character development, descriptive details, etc. (10-20 minutes)
Independent Writing Time: Students generally will write based on the mini-lesson, but they can also work on their own pieces, continue work from the writing invitation slide at the beginning, or write about something else. (25-40 minutes)
Favorite Lines: Students write down their favorite lines from their writing in the chat and we read them. I then copy them and add them to our web page. (5 minutes)
Author's Chair: Students can choose to share what they've written on that day from either the prompt, the mini-lesson, a longer piece they are working on, or something they wrote outside of class. They are not obligated to share. Students listen attentively to their group members' writing and give feedback to the readers. (15-20 minutes)
Optimistic Closing: We end with a quick positive statement about this week's class. (5 minutes)
