The Bilingual Educational Program
Our Bilingual Educational Program (PEB) began in 1996 together with the Ministry of Education to provide access to bilingual and bicultural education to boys and girls in Spain, based on the educational model of the British Council School in Madrid. Currently the program reaches 40,000 students annually in 90 Early Childhood and Primary Education centers and 58 Secondary Education Institutes in 10 Autonomous Communities .
Integrated Curriculum and methodology
The PEB methodology is characterized by the focus on reading-writing skills and the development of linguistic, scientific and intercultural skills in English and Spanish. At the center of the PEB is the integrated competency curriculum that combines contents and methodologies from both the Spanish and British curricula. The Ministry of Education and Vocational Training has published: Guidelines for the development and implementation of the bilingual educational program in the second cycle of early childhood education and Guidelines for the teaching of English (Literacy) within the framework of the Bilingual Educational Program in Primary Education with the aim of updating the integrated curricula through methodological support within the new educational legal framework in Spain (LOMLOE).
PEB initiation program
Every September within our annual PEB initiation program highlights the presentation of our roadmap for the academic year. It also offers initial and fundamental support to new teachers at the PEB on the methodology and characteristics of our program through specific online courses for teachers at the PEB in the Early Childhood and Primary Education stages.
Investigation
Research and evaluation are necessary to measure the effectiveness and to ensure the quality of PEB. We have currently designed five research projects for 2021-26 with several Spanish universities and institutions. You can download the publications available to date as well as our self-assessment tool for the management of bilingual centers or the conclusion reports of our seminars with the Cervantes Institute entitled "Inclusion and the right to learn a foreign language" and "Artificial intelligence in language teaching".
Teacher training
We organize courses and webinars for teachers in Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary Education to help PEB centers achieve the best results for all their students. The key topics of our training are: effective techniques for teaching Literacy, effective assessment, planning and teaching within an inclusive curriculum. We also share the opportunities offered within our Global Teacher Training Program so that PEB teachers and teachers throughout Spain have access to more quality training opportunities. You can access our latest PEB methodology webinars on our YouTube playlist.
