The food pyramid is the basis for having a balanced diet; a resource that minors should know to learn how to have a healthy diet. It contains foods classified into five groups depending on their composition: carbohydrates (first step of the pyramid), fruits and vegetables (second step), dairy products and nuts (third step), meat, eggs and fish (fourth step), sweets and fats (fifth step).

Depending on the level at which they are, the pyramid will indicate one frequency or another of consumption: carbohydrates, fruits and vegetables, every day; dairy, nuts, meat, eggs and fish, two or three times a week; and sweets and fats, once or twice a week and without abuse. The following resources are useful for students to discover and be aware of the need to eat a balanced diet.

Are rice, meat, cheese, vegetables or a donut, among others, consumed daily, weekly or occasionally? Students will have to drag each food to the corresponding area of ​​the pyramid and will be able to check at the moment if they are correct or not: if they fail, the element will automatically return to its initial position.

The diet

This video for children talks about the food pyramid, what foods should be consumed daily, frequently or occasionally, their origin, the importance of a balanced diet, drinking water and physical exercise for health. All accompanied by explanatory images and recommendations. Finally, it includes a round of questions to know how to answer the most common doubts among students.

The Junta de Andalucía proposes a teaching unit for students to establish the relationship between balanced nutrition and health status and to know the frequency of consumption of different groups. In addition, it includes 14 different activities related to the topic. Among them, the food wheel, a debate on school menus, the introduction to energy intake, a word search, a habit test, different riddles...

The youngest has a set of stickers with food and a dice that he must roll in turns. Thus, depending on the color that appears, you must complete the pyramid with the corresponding foods: green for those that you have to eat often, yellow for those that you have to eat sometimes and red for those that you only have to try occasionally. If doubts arise, the game has an autocorrect system: you can check on the back of the food that the choice is correct if the color of the die matches the other side of the food. The goal is for the student to run out of food and complete the pyramid correctly.
