PHYSICAL EDUCATION / HEALTH
The Physical Education/Health Department offers fitness-focused activities and experiences that develop and improve health-related fitness including body composition, cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and coordination. Students in all grade levels are given the opportunity to select from a wide range of activities from five major areas: strength conditioning and cardiovascular fitness, individual and team sports, creative movement and dance, recreational sports and games, and CPR/First Aid training.
Our health education classes provide students with practical information covering a wide range of topics that directly impact their lives on a daily basis, including self-esteem, decision making, goal setting, diet and exercise, communication skills, relationships, disease prevention and sexuality. Students will engage in activities aimed at developing critical thinking and problem solving skills. Ultimately, students will learn how to assess good information and available resources and use that information to lead a healthy, happy lifestyle.
Reflecting the importance of regular physical education and health instruction in our students’ educational experience, students must successfully complete 4 years (2 credits) of physical education/health.
